Angel headed hipsters...

This one has been around before, but the release of the Howl movie is as good a reason as any to bring it back. A brilliant insight both into and by one of the rarest specimens of the 20th Century, Angel Headed Hipsters is a collection private photographs by the beat poet, Allen Ginsberg. And it is so illuminating for its personal nature, extra enlightenment coming from the sometimes quite detailed notations and comments by the photographer, capturing ‘fleeting moments in a floating world’. For even more insight, this Saturday sees a talk explaining the significance of some of the shots, though I think much of it is perfectly apparent from the pictures. What it shows it is a deep affection for those around him: his friends – Cassidy, Kerouac, Burroughs et al – the angel headed hipsters…
